After receiving an MFA from University of California, Irvine, Maria Cominis made her way to New York where she lived for ten years performing in theatre, television, original works and cabarets. She taught acting at Herbert Berghof Studio under the tutelage of Uta Hagen; and taught at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and Weist Barron Television/Film School in NYC. ÌýIn Southern California, she taught at USC School of Cinema and Television, Vanguard University, APU and CSULB but happy to call CSUF her home since 2005. As an actor, Maria has appeared on ABC’s Desperate Housewives (recurring), Fox’s New Girl, All My Children and One Life to Live. ÌýTheatre credits include, Bernarda Alba, Diviners, Sea Gull and Ivanov. Her original play, Women of Zalongo© is currently in development in Los Angeles and was chosen as a semi-finalist in the Bay Area Playwright’s Festival (BAPF 2020) and the recipient of two grants for 2020/2021. ÌýHer book, Rehearsing in the Zone, a practical guide to rehearsing without a director includes an interactive online companion, 3rd Edition, Kendall Hunt Publishing (2020) and has been adopted in universities and colleges across the country.
